Linda Noren
A: The information below was posted on Analy News on March 16th. We suggest that you join Analy News right now at http://analyhighschool.org/anews/ to learn about Analy and keep up with what's happening.
The 2009-2010 school year will begin on Wednesday, August 19, 2009.
Registration for Juniors and Seniors will be held on Wednesday, August 5th and registration for Sophomore and Freshmen students will be on Thursday, August 6th.
Makeup registration will be held Tuesday, August 11th.
Postcards with all times and information will be mailed in late June. Please watch for this important information.
Q: I have attempted to access this website to obtain grade information, assignment, etc and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Today I was able to get grades from [one teacher's web site] for one daughter but not the other. Then when I attempted to get grades on another daughter I just got grades for on [same teacher's site], it wouldn't access. And forget about accessing [another teacher's] site at all. Is there a trick or helpful hint that I'm missing? Is it a browser thing? Signed frustrated parent!
A: Thank you for writing.
You have to be very specific about which teacher for us to help you. We strongly encourage you to write to [the teacher] if you can't resolve this. We use [the second teacher's] site all the time and it appears to work; we just tried and it worked and we're using Firefox; Explorer (PC) or Safari (Mac) should work too. You have to make sure you have the right class and then that you have the right student ID, entering the appropriate number of leading "0s" before the ID. If you have never been able to log onto this teacher's gradebook you might write them.
Followup Comment "Thank you for such a quick response. It seems that it's the leading zero's that are the problem. Some teachers use only two, some use only three. And know some are using four. As far as the students name, student id and period, I am pulling the information directly from their report cards.
Q: It was great finding the school had a web site. It is amazing how technology and things have changed. I enjoyed discovering the alumni link. It is nice to see the school still focuses on helping us stay in touch. If I could make one suggestion it would be to have a place on the school site, where alumni, parents, students or friends of the school could sign up and receive sport scores and school updates by email throughout the year. That would be a fun addition.
A: For general information and announcements go to Analy News. For Analy sports the best you will find is at Highschoolsports.net. Click on "The Scoreboard." The information posted there is constantly improving although all scores for all events are not (a huge job).
Q: Would it be possible to have the AHS daily announcements (daily bulletin) added to the web site? Thanks.
A: We made the request and the AHS daily bulletin is now posted on the same page as the Analy High School Newsletter. Go the the navigation link on the left, "News & Reports," and then click on the "Daily Bulletin" submenu. We will post them when they are made available to us. Thanks for the suggestion!
Q: The search engine isn't including the centennial web site. What's happening?
A: The centennial is on an off-site (i.e., not in the analyhighschool.org domain) and is therefore not indexed. The Google search engine will also not include other wikis, blogs or web pages related to Analy that are not in its domain. You could configure Google to search a specific domain, wherever it might be.
Q: I commute from Rohnert Park and need someone to car pool with. Can you please post my information?
A: Good question, and the answer is YES! Principal Heller approved the Analy Commuter Form at http://www.analyhighschool.org/carpoolform.html. Fill out the form, submit your contact information, and the information will be posted online at http://www.analyhighschool.org/commuterform/ in spreadsheet or pdf. In other words, here is support for carpooling! Carpooling or ridesharing has probably been around since Analy's doors opened a century ago but now even more people can do it -- here is an easy way to advertise your empty seats and/or need for a lift.
Q: I am trying to update my calendar at home with all the dates that Analy is off this year, but the only date that shows up when I access the main calendar on your website is the back to school night. Can you tell me when you will have the rest of the dates posted, or how I can get an updated calendar for the year?
A: To find that information out you have to go to the District Calendar, at http://wscuhsd.k12.ca.us/Calendar/SY_08_09.pdf. We found the dates below of no school and put them on the footer of nearly all Analy pages:
NOV. 10 STAFF DAY
NOV. 11 VETERAN'S DAY
NOV. 27-28 THANKSGIVING BREAK
DEC. 21-JAN. 2 WINTER BREAK
JAN. 19 MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
FEB. 16-20 MID-WINTER BREAK
APRIL 13-17 SPRING BREAK
MAY 25 MEMORIAL DAY
JUNE 4, 2009 LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Q: I was just trying to get the Analy girl's soccer schedule, and can't find a link from the home page to the Sport schedules. I did eventually find it via Google.
A: To find Sports at Analy, go to "Programs & Activities" and it opens up on the menu. For the Sports schedule, either take the prior link or go to "Calendar" and then pick "Sports" (that link takes you to the off-site sports calendar. You can always go to the "Site Map" in the footer of the page to find either, but the search engine (Google) works great too--it only searches Analy High School!
Q: It's my opinion that the music program should not be listed under "extra-curricular." All of the instrumental music groups at Analy are classes that earn units and grades toward graduation. A pep band meeting as a club would be extra-curricular.
A: We've looked into this and changed the name to "Programs and Activities". Thanks for the suggestion!
Q: Should there be a link for potential volunteers to sign up on-line (under Community Support)?
A: That seems like a good place to put the link. Thanks.
Q: Thanks for all you have done over the years...My child has just graduated from Analy, and I'll be moving...to care for parents. Please remove me from your email distribution list. All the best,
Q: How about some sound - like the Analy hymn. Where can I find the written words to the hymn?
A: We're looking for the words...check back. As for sound, check out the "Analy Fight Song" from way back when delivered during the Centennial Celebration on 5.17.08 or listen to the sounds on Analy's media page.
Q: I could not find any form from the athletic department. I was advised by a volleyball coach to download the packet and form of physical exam for upcoming fall sports
A: These forms have been revised and are now temporarily available through the Tiger Athletics page and perhaps the Student Forms page. Thank you for your patience.
Q: It would be nice if the calendar on the website listed more than
just holidays. It would be nice to see dates for rally schedules,
school performances, testing dates, etc. on the calendar.
A: We agree. The problem is that there are many schedules and it may
not be productive to centralize all of them. We have, however, centralized
all Analy calendars that have been placed on Google. Please read on.
The good thing is that all of the dates you want are available--they're
just spread across the 9 calendars available by hovering over the "Calendars" link to the left or you can click http://www.analyhighschool.org/calendar/ to get started. Most are Google, one is html and another is in pdf. When you go to the
Analy calendar page and look at the drop-down menu, there are nine Google
Calendars (Counseling, Main, Theater Arts, Centennial, Band, Student
Activities, Speech & Debate, Library and Analy Education Foundation), a Consolidated Calendar
(which combines the Google calendars just mentioned), one pdf
calendar (the District Calendar), the sports calendar (which goes off-site--and
is, by the way, one of the most visited calendars), and the bell schedule
(we'll forget about that here).
Note: Because the authors of all seven of the above Google Calendars have
made them publicly available, we are able to consolidate them through a free Google account. Thus, you can find all the dates
you seek (except for rallys) in the consolidated calendar. If you create
or have a free Google account, however, you should know that it is easy
to pick any of the above Google calendars you want and combine or consolidate
them into one Google calendar of your own. (Once you
have a Google calendar account go to "Manage Calendars" in Google and check all the boxes of the calendars you want to combine. All the calendars you consolidate will be
updated automatically whenever the authors update their calendar.
Note that if you import your personal calendar into Google calendar
(which is not difficult for many online or desktop calendars--such as
those associated with Outlook, Eudora, Entourage, Yahoo, etc.) you could
then combine your (private) personal calendar with whatever other calendars
you choose from the above list, all the while keeping your personal
calendar private.
Look for rally updates on
the student
activities page or their calendar.
We are encouraging key people to get all of the Analy schedules on Google
so that we--or you--can consolidate the calendars, or at least the ones
you want.
Q: In the list of links at left, could you please organize the Faculty List and the Faculty Websites next to each other in the list, rather than have one alphabetically under Faculty and the other under Teacher?
A: The links were changed. Thanks for the suggestion.
