Rhetoric

1 year; 10 credits; Grade 10- 12 (Eng.)

This course may be taken once in lieu of English 10, 11, or 12 and receive English graduation credit.

 

Pre-requisites: Juniors & Seniors: Completion of previous English class with a "C" or better.
Pre-requisites Sophomores: A minimum requirement of ‘B’ or better in current English course; a teacher assessment form from current English teacher; a student self-assessment form; a letter of interest in taking the course; and satisfactory performance on a written examination.

 

 

Through the study of literature and rhetoric, students will practice literary interpretation, persuasion, and logic while improving their written and oral communication skills. While researching contemporary issues and current events in preparation for classroom debates and symposiums, students will employ formal outlining and documentation skills. This course requires a substantial amount of research, writing, analytical reading, and critical thinking.
