First semester students learn the four programs of
the Microsoft Office Suite: PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Access. Students
create fun individual and group projects to help their learning and
present them to each other. Students also can expect to increase their
typing speed by 30 words per minute by using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
and the games it includes.
Second semester students focus on web skills. During the third quarter,
students learn HTML (or Hypertext Markup Language) and Paint Shop Pro
to help them build web pages. They also learn how to convert, manipulate
and use graphics and photos in web pages. The third quarter students
get a sampling of the Macromedia Programs: Fireworks, Flash, Freehand
and Dreamweaver. For a final project students work in groups to research
and create a professional web page for a local non-profit agency.
